Pocket Tripod Pro Review: Worth It or Not?

How-to & Reviews

As I clearly state on my social media profiles, I love new gadgets–especially technology gadgets. Added bonus points for those gadgets I might use for photography! This is a  tripod for smartphones and claims to fill all phone and all cases measuring less than 12.5mm thick or 1/2 inch or less. I tried it with 2 different phones and found it fit both equally well. Bottom line, I’ve decided to keep it. But maybe not for the reasons you’d think. So, let me jump right into my review of the Pocket Tripod Pro from Geometrical.

Packaging and Contents

EXCELLENT  I do tend to make judgements about the quality of a product by the quality of its packaging. The tripod comes in a sturdy and attractive box with a wealth of information printed inside and out. A nicely written set of instructions on the box and on an insert, provides all the info you need to begin using the tool.

Smartphones thickness varies. To ensure you can use the tripod with whatever smartphone you have, several sets of adapters are included and a coupon code, for ordering an additional set in a size not included, is printed inside, just in case you have the odd-sized phone. Also included in a “Fit Card” which you can use to determine which set of adapters will work best with your phone. Even with the “Fit Cat” it took me a few tries with the actual adapters to find the best size for the two phones I tested with the tripod.

Setup and Use

Out of the box, the tripod is the size and shape of a credit card. The tripod shape is achieved through a series of twists and fold. I found it slightly confusing at first but very easy to complete after one or two tries. The ability to separate the tool into two pieces allows for a landscape view of the phone, perfect for watching videos.

I am still not sure which way I prefer the insert the adapters. One side provides a longer edge for support than the other and I tend to want the long one to support most of the weight of the phone. The instructions differentiate between standard and pro modes depending on the angle of the phone. The direction you insert the adapter differs between the two modes. Still, the photo on the front of the box and in the instructions, show the weight of the phone supported by the smaller adapter side, which I am not comfortable with.

Conclusion

Overall, I am pleased with the purchase of the Pocket Tripod Pro. I am planning to begin using my phone for shooting more video and need a way to prop it up for a good angle. I also like to have my phone on a stand of some kind while I am working at my computer. This tool will work for both. I really see it being beneficial for traveling as it is light and easy to pack.
