A hummingbird settles on the curling remains of a sunflower, the dried leaves and seed head lit from behind into a halo of gold. Light rims every edge, the bird's feathers, the twisting stem, the papery petals, while the deep blue-green distance falls away into shadow.
There is a lovely contrast at the heart of the image: one of the smallest and most vivid of birds resting on a flower long past its bloom. The season is turning, yet the moment glows with warmth, a reminder that late light can make even what is fading quietly radiant.
