A tall stem of milkweed hangs in a long vertical composition, its leaves dried and curling into spirals, a small cluster of red and gold blossoms still bright near the top. Behind it, a background of aged parchment and faint handwritten script gives the piece the feel of an antique botanical plate.
Developed in the studio by layering photograph and texture, the work celebrates a plant often overlooked but vital to the natural world, as milkweed is the essential host plant for monarch butterflies. Here, even in its late season, the plant is given the dignity of a specimen worth preserving.
