Developed in the studio by blending photograph and historic text, the piece draws a visible line between the founding words and the symbol they inspired. Fittingly, the tablet in Liberty's left hand bears that same date, July 4, 1776, a quiet reminder that the statue was always meant to carry the Declaration's promise.
