Loreto Chapel at La Bahía

The bell tower of the chapel at Presidio La Bahía rises above the fort's weathered stone wall, its cross silhouetted against a pale, textured sky. In front, two tall agave bloom stalks reach upward beside the wall, echoing the tower's vertical lines.
Developed in the studio with an aged, painterly surface, the image honors one of the most storied places in Texas. Established at Goliad in 1749, the presidio witnessed Spanish, Mexican, and Texian history, including the tragic events of the Goliad Massacre in 1836. The century plants, which bloom only once in their long lives, add a fitting note of endurance to a fort that has stood for nearly three centuries.
