Safe Harbor

A tightly packed fleet of shrimp boats rests at the dock, weathered hulls, tangled rigging, and working details hinting at years spent on the water. The orderly row leads the eye toward a distant horizon, all held in muted, textured tones.
Developed in the studio with an aged, painterly finish, the image was captured in Rockport, Texas, years before Hurricane Harvey made landfall there in 2017 and devastated the town and its harbor. It remains a quiet record of the shrimping fleet in calmer days, and of the shelter a harbor offers to those who work the open water.
