A hummingbird rests at the very tip of a single dark stem, perfectly still, beak pointed outward like a compass needle. For a creature known almost entirely for motion, the stillness itself becomes the subject: a tiny sentinel keeping watch over its small territory.
Around it, the background dissolves into soft washes of dusky rose, lavender, and blue, shaped in the studio into something closer to a painted sky than a backdrop. The bird's green back and pale breast glow quietly against it, delicate and alert, entirely at ease in its moment of pause.
