A scrub jay perches with its feathers fluffed and ruffled, as if it has just shaken off a bath or a passing shower. Its vivid blue head and wings contrast with the soft gray of its tousled breast, and its sharp eye remains perfectly alert.
Set in the studio against loose washes of violet, lavender, and pale blue, the bird appears to emerge from a watercolor painting. The piece is lighthearted and full of personality, capturing that charming moment between dishevelment and dignity.
