White on white, an ibis glides across a pale, open field of light. The bird nearly disappears into its surroundings; only the dark tips of its wings and the coral curve of its bill and legs define its shape, while the far wing seems to dissolve into air.
Developed in the studio as a quiet study in restraint, the piece asks the viewer to look closely, to find the bird within the brightness. It is a meditation on grace and near-invisibility, and a natural companion to Roseate Spoonbill Flyby, the two birds crossing the same luminous space in opposite directions.
